Abstract
Description
There has been some research on how positive psychological processes can positively affect the rehabilitation of athletes. Following my own experience with an injury I found that there can be significant negative psychological outcomes after an injury in the general population. From this experience I saw the importance of how maintaining positive psychological processes could have prevented negative outcomes that I experienced. To study how to positively affect the psychology of the injured person using a model that looks at how the biological, psychology, and social aspects of the injury affect the outcomes of the injury and rehabilitation. I will also look at motivation and psychological need fulfillment for the injured person that can increase positive psychological outcomes. Looking at those two aspects of injury and rehabilitation I want to create a handbook of psychological processes that anyone in the healthcare system can use to promote rehabilitation and prevent negative psychological outcomes.
