edTPA: A Lesson Segment on Inferencing Skills

Description
For my capstone, I am submitting my edTPA, which is a national assessment that gauges the readiness of new teachers. I designed my lesson segment for my junior English class, and it focuses on building inferencing skills in preparation for the ACT. The first lesson introduces the skill with tasks that my students are already familiar with, a technique that I used throughout my student teaching. The subsequent lessons transfer the skill to the focus text, "Two Kinds" by Amy Tan. The students filled out a graphic organizer that allowed them to visualize and practice the inferencing skill while they read, and they used their organizers as guides for our Socratic Seminar on the text.
