Traffic Operations and Intersection Improvement Analysis Using VISSIM Simulation

Abstract
This study presents a comprehensive traffic operations analysis of the I-80 and US-287 interchange using the microscopic simulation software PTV VISSIM. The objective was to evaluate the performance of existing traffic conditions and compare potential improvement strategies under increased traffic demand. Three scenarios were developed and analyzed: No Build, Signalized Intersection, and Roundabout. Overall, the study highlights the effectiveness of microscopic traffic simulation in evaluating intersection performance and supports the implementation of roundabout design as a sustainable solution for improving traffic efficiency, safety, and mobility at the study location.
