Abstract
The project, Improving Economic Impact from OHV Users in Southwest Wyoming, aims to enhance the economic and community benefits of off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation by developing and promoting the Southwest Wyoming Off-Road Trails (SWOT) system. SWOT connects communities across Uinta, Sweetwater, and Lincoln counties with an expanding network of motorized trails that utilize existing roads and infrastructure. With objectives focused on trail connectivity, economic development, community engagement, and sustainable recreation, the project seeks to drive tourism, increase local spending, and promote responsible outdoor use. While the initiative holds great promise for boosting tourism revenue, creating jobs, and supporting business growth, it also faces marketing, maintenance, safety, and data collection 3 challenges. To address these, the team recommends adding QR code-enabled trail maps, partnering with platforms like OnX Off-Road, offering discounts, improving signage and parking, and enhancing public outreach. Ultimately, this project aspires to position Southwest Wyoming as a premier OHV destination, delivering long-term economic, social, and environmental benefits to the region.
