Abstract
Description
Breastfeeding is a common feeding practices utilized around the world, and it has been proven to be the best source of nutrition for newborn babies. Despite all of the health benefits of breastfeeding, the rates of exclusive breastfeeding are below the recommended guidelines. For this reason, the PICOT question researches the common problems associated with breastfeeding and how education on those problems provided by a lactation consultant could increase the duration of breastfeeding. The common problems associated with breastfeeding include ineffective latch, insufficient milk supply, milk oversupply, breast engorgement, and clogged ducts and mastitis. The conclusions of this literature review support that education provided from a certified lactation consultant increases the duration of breastfeeding.
