Yellowstone Lake Paint Pots, Yellowstone Park, Wyo., U.S.A.

Abstract
Description
YELLOWSTONE LAKE PAINT POTS, YELLOWSTONE PARK. The drive down the eastern slope to Yellowstone lake is full of inspiring experiences. The graceful curves of the roadway, the beauty of the vast evergreen forests on either side, the first glimpse of the lake (the highest body of navigated water in the world-7,741 feet above the see), the prospects of a good lunch, ready on arrival,--all these experiences conspire to make a morning never to be forgotten while memory holds her seat in the mind. At the Western extremity of the lake--a deep bay that is called The Thumb--we are delighted to fidn again exhibitions of interior heat and chemical action. Here, in a limited area, are more than sixty hot springs, exquisite pools, paint pots of many tints, lakelets of azure hue--and al of them pulsating, boiling or constantly changing level, as if the surface of the earth were the walls of a great heaving breast, rising and falling in respiration, or throbbing as if a beating heart were underneath. the Paint Pots are like great cauldrons of cooking pigments, unlimited in quantity and in variety of color.
