Description
The United States Senate has been referred to as “the world’s greatest deliberative body” for generations. Its prestige and consequential ability to shape the nation’s future is undeniable. My Honors Capstone derives from an opportunity to have served as an intern on the United States Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Being entrenched in the political and legislative processes of the institution supplemented my classroom education in political science with a tangible experience at the highest level of American government. In developing an understanding of the institution from within the walls of the United States Capitol Building, my knowledge of American governance increased significantly, and my view of American political service developed dramatically. In relating observed experiences back to studied concepts of American government, this capstone draws upon a variety of inspiration, creating a unique reflection on the American political system.
