Abstract
Description
The practicality of a dual permeability model in reflecting the flow of oil within the Tensleep formation of the Teapot Dome Field is examined. The Teapot Dome field contains a northwest-trending anticlinal trap with a doubly-plunging structure. Teapot Dome's most productive region, the Tensleep formation, is an eolian sandstone approximately three hundred feet thick and interbedded with dolomite. The combination of the dome's structural evolution and dolomite interbedding has yielded a highly fractured reservoir containing numerous barriers to vertical fluid flow. As such, modeling attempts utilizing a single permeability representation of the reservoir are likely not the most effective approach. A dual permeability model, which assigns separate permeabilities to the matrix and the fractures, is a more attractive method. Here, a static dual permeability representation of the reservoir was first generated and upscaled utilizing Petrel E/&P 2014 software. Then, the single permeability and dual permeability models were simulated with CMG IMEX and evaluated in relation to the field's historical production data.
