Improving Neonatal Care in the Resource-Limited Setting of Rwanda

Batenhorst, Sean
Abstract
Description
In the resource-limited setting, such as Rwanda, low doctor to patient ratios cause serious issues when providing care to high risk patients. These patients include neonates, babies born pre-term, whose deaths occur most frequently in sub-saharan Africa compared to every other world region. In an attempt to alleviate this strain hospitals in this region have begun trying to incorporate parents into their children's care, a process termed Family Integrated Care. This paper looks at two papers which attempt to shed light on the use of family integrated care by looking at what topics should be taught to the parents of admitted neonates as well as whether videos would be an effective method of disseminating knowledge to this population.
