Abstract
Description
The main goal of mapping the bedrock geology of the Richards Gap 7.5' quadrangle is to further understanding of the mineral and energy resources in the Firehole Canyon area of southwestern Wyoming. The bedrock geologic units exposed in the quadrangle range in age from Upper Cretaceous to Oligocene, and record a transition from deposition at the margins of the Western Interior Seaway in the Sevier foreland to syn- and post-Laramide intracontinental environments. Samples were collected for detrital zircon geochronology from the main body of the Wasatch Formation, and whole rock samples were gathered for major, minor, and trace element geochemistry, as well as petrographic analysis.
