Download fileSkills vs Rapport: Do Students in STEM and Humanities Courses Value Different Characteristics in Their Professors?
This project uses student evaluations of teachers from Ratemyprofessor.com to determine if the type of class being taught (STEM or humanities) changes the type of characteristics students value in their teachers. I used the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) software to count the frequency of skills and rapport related words in students' evaluations of professors at various U.S. universities. This was measured against the type of class being taught, as well as the overall quality rating of the professors.
