Instructional Facilitating: Roles, Causes, and Strategies for Overcoming Resistance

PeilInstructional Facilitators (IFs) have been placed as key players in school districts in order to help build teacher knowledge and understanding in specific content areas. Resistance from teachers toward those in leadership positions becomes an obstacle that must be dealt with as mounting pressure at the federal, state, and district levels for increased student achievement is a reality. In this paper, the author explores the roles of an IF, possible causes of resistance, and strategies that can be employed to deal with resistance.
