The idea of going into space and living on other planets has been a dream for humanity for centuries, but it is more recently that such an idea is starting to become possible within the next couple of decades with Mars. This paper aims to explore some of the difficulties that will have to be overcome and possible solutions to them in order to have a successful attempt at establishing a Martian colony, as well as exploring reasons why we should be going through the difficultly of setting up the colony and what we stand to gain from it. I argue that we should be supporting attempts to develop technology to set up a colony on Mars, that we stand to gain far more than we lose in the process.
