Anthem: A Reflection on Goodness and What It Means to Be Catholic

This project is a non-fiction creative writing piece that involves my struggle to define the meaning of being "good" and to ultimately find peace in the way that I practice my Catholic religion. The research included many autobiographies of religious figures and a guide to writing personal essays. These books showed me how others have approached this topic in the past and gave me guidance in how to format this personal essay. The non-fiction personal essay genre includes the elements of a conversational tone, honesty, and self-discovery. I used these elements in telling my story to express my struggles in practicing my religion, and I eventually came to the conclusion that goodness is not as easily defined as black and white.
