Heavy-mineral sandstone in the Upper Cretaceous Rock Springs Formation, Richards Gap, Wyoming

This study is a preliminary examination of geochemical data collected from a heavy-mineral sandstone, or paleoplacer, in the McCourt Sandstone Tongue of the Rock Springs Formation during mapping of the bedrock geology of the Richards Gap 7.5' quadrangle in southwestern Wyoming. Sample analyses indicate the presence of several critical mineral resources, of which the most notable are abundant titanium, zirconium, and rare earth elements, as well as elevated hafnium, niobium, and vanadium.
