posted on 2021-11-15, 18:16 authored by Kyle FrielAs part of a Structural Systems Design course, groups were required to design the structural systems of a hypothetical office building located in Laramie, Wyoming. Architectural drawings of the office building were initially provided. The building's structural systems had to be designed to meet the appropriate codes and withstand the calculated gravity and lateral loads. As part of the design process, the course required the production of design and construction documents. Using the calculated loads, the gravity, lateral, and foundation systems were designed. The gravity system is composed of steel framing with a concrete floor slab and steel deck. The lateral system was designed to be a combination of masonry shear walls and steel braced framing. A deep foundation system such as caissons or drilled shafts were considered for the foundation type.
