The Goat Mountain 7.5-minute quadrangle straddles the Albany-Laramie county line in southeastern Wyoming. Paleoproterozoic rocks are exposed in the western half of the quadrangle, while Phanerozoic rocks make up most of the eastern half. Laramide reverse faulting resulted in a tightly folded sequence of Paleozoic and Mesozoic rocks exposed in the Iron Mountain Syncline. The eastern terminus of the Laramide reverse fault system forms the divide between the Mesoproterozoic and Phanerozoic rocks. Geochronologic and geochemical analytical results are included with a technical report on the geology of the quadrangle. The project was completed in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey STATEMAP program.
